How do you explain John 5:26“He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself”?

It is not as though the Son was lifeless until the Father gave him life (whether in time or in eternity past). Instead, this verse probably references the Father’s granting of authority to Christ, within the economic Trinity, to bequeath life to his elect (cf. v. 27; also 1 John 1:2).
