What is the difference between emotion and passions?

Emotion is a disposition toward an object or action, sourced in the mind, that expresses itself in feeling. All persons possess emotions. Passions are various reflexes and reactions emanating spontaneously and variously from a complex of dispositions, habits, and chemical/glandular impulses. Passions are not essential to personhood.
