What is the moral influence view of atonement?

This view is similar to the governmental view in that atonement does not pay man’s penalty. Instead, this view sets forth Jesus as the perfect model of character and conduct in life and death, a model which should influence us to live in a more godly manner. This is the standard liberal view.
