Why the Bible Remains Central to Understanding God

Introduction

In every age, people have sought to understand who God is and how He has revealed Himself. From the beauty of creation to the voice of conscience, from miracles to the life of Jesus Christ, God has made Himself known in many ways. Yet, among all these forms of revelation, one stands supreme — the Bible, God’s written Word.

The Scriptures are not merely an ancient record; they are the living and active self-disclosure of God (Hebrews 4:12). Through them, God continues to speak with authority, clarity, and grace. Here’s why the Bible remains the greatest and most reliable revelation of God to humanity today.

1. The Bible Is God’s Enduring Revelation in the Absence of Christ

When Jesus Christ lived among us, He perfectly revealed the Father (John 14:9). But after His ascension, God ensured that His truth would remain accessible to all generations through the written Word.

The Bible is, therefore, the most tangible and enduring form of divine self-disclosure. It allows people in every place and time to encounter God’s truth, to understand His will, and to know His plan of redemption. In the absence of Christ’s physical presence, the Scriptures carry His voice and authority to the ends of the earth.

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” — Matthew 24:35

2. The Bible Interprets All Other Forms of Revelation

While God reveals Himself through nature, history, and conscience, these forms of revelation are incomplete without the Bible. The natural world shows God’s power and design, but it does not tell us His name, His holiness, or His plan of salvation.

Only the Scriptures give the authoritative interpretation of what we see in creation and experience in life. The Bible is the divine commentary that gives meaning to every other revelation of God. Without it, we might admire the heavens but miss the Creator; with it, we understand that “The heavens declare the glory of God” (Psalm 19:1).

3. The Bible Reveals the True Person and Work of Jesus Christ

The central focus of all revelation is the Lord Jesus Christ — and only the Bible gives us the full and authentic account of who He is. From the prophetic promises in Genesis and Isaiah to the Gospel narratives and apostolic letters, Scripture unfolds the story of redemption through Christ.

It tells us not only what Jesus did but why He did it — to save sinners and restore them to fellowship with God. Without Scripture, we could know of Jesus as a historical figure; through Scripture, we know Him as the eternal Son of God and risen Savior.

“These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” — John 20:31

Conclusion

The Bible reigns as the greatest form of divine revelation because it is complete, enduring, and Christ-centered.

  • It preserves God’s truth in the absence of Christ’s physical presence.
  • It provides the only true interpretation of every other revelation.
  • And it reveals Jesus Christ as the perfect image of God and the source of eternal life.

Through Scripture, God still speaks — calling, correcting, and comforting His people. To know the Bible is to know the heart of God Himself.
